The weather was perfect for our Annual Kick-off BBQ held on Sunday at L’Escale in La Robertsau. More than 200 members joined in the fun and enjoyed the delicious barbecue. We also had the pleasure of welcoming the new Consul General and his wife to the festivities. The event was a great way to catch up with old friends and to make new friends as well! 

A huge thank you goes out to all of those who volunteered your time at the Kick-off BBQ.  We couldn’t do it with you!

It’s time to renew your membership in AIA! The membership year is from June 1st to May 31st in accordance with our fiscal year. AIA runs the annual membership drive in September as many people move and are on vacation during the summer months. Anyone who has signed up for membership after June 1st does not need to renew.

In order to update and verify our records, we ask that you complete ALL of the information requested on the Membership Application & Renewal Form 2011-2012.  The deadline is October 8th, after that date we cannot guarantee you will be included in the Membership Directory. Renewing members do not need to send in a copy of a passport.

The Independence Day celebration held at the Consul General’s residence was a celebration not to be missed!  Many AIA members joined in for a fun-filled afternoon, which included musical entertainment from American Music Abroad.  The food was plentiful, including the goodies found at the AIA Sweets Table!  Thank you to all of those members who volunteered for the event and to those who baked and brought delicious chocolate chip cookies and brownies to the event.  Everyone loved them!

On Friday, June 24th, 18 of our members joined together for our annual cocktail party. This year, it was at El Barco Latino. We had tapas, mojitos and of course great company!

The AIA Board is in need of a Children’s Activities Coordinator and Children’s Activities Committee members. If you enjoy working with children and have a few hours a month to spare, please consider volunteering for this worthwhile cause. On May 7th, nearly 250 people came together to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Americans in Alsace! Some former members traveled from afar to join in the festivities which included a piano solo by AIA member Nora Precausta, listening to a jazz duo, a drawing contest for the children, and the chance to win many wonderful raffle prizes. The weather was spectacular as friends gathered together to catch up on each other’s lives. US Consul General Vincent Carver spoke briefly as did Robyn Pereira, President of Americans in Alsace. Robyn gave a little history on the association and then former AIA President Marilyn Shipman spoke about her first day in Alsace. Everyone could identify with her story, as I’m sure we’ve all had similar adventures! The afternoon passed much too quickly and before we knew it, it was time to say good-bye. The celebration was a great success! Happy 20th Anniversary Americans in Alsace! Here’s to another 20 wonderful years of new friendships, unforgettable adventures, and being an excellent support system and home away from home for those Americans living abroad.

The weather was lovely and many AIA families turned out for a spectacular afternoon of egg hunting.
There was even a visit from the Easter bunny!

22 people participated to the visit to the Kronenbourg museum.
Both adults and children enjoyed the guided tour.

We will be having a raffle during the 20th Anniversary party! We are looking for donations for the raffle– if you know a company or someone who would like to donate, please let us know ASAP. Raffle donations would need to be received by the end of April.
