Americans in Alsace

18 AIAers visited the Robert Blanck winery in Obernai. They toured the cellar and learned about the process of making wine, how wine is stored, and how the barrels are emptied and cleaned. Following the tour, the group tasted four types of wine and learned about ideal pairings. It was a great afternoon in Obernai!

15 AIA and playgroup families visited the Ferme Humbert, an organic farm in Urbeis. After participating in a treasure hunt which allowed us to discover the farm and its activities, we were treated to a goûter of their products: fresh milk, ice cream and yogurt and we even got to taste butter that the children (and adults!) made themselves. We ended the day by observing and participating in the afternoon milking. The great weather and the wonderful welcome made the event an enjoyable one for all! Over 80 people participated in the Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Consul General’s residence on April 3rd. The rain held off until the end of the event and the children were able to hunt for eggs and participate in numerous games and craft activities. The highlight of the day was a visit by the Easter Bunny who distributed chocolates and led us around the garden for our first ever Easter Bonnet Parade!

On March 7th, twenty AIA members were guided through the Strasbourg Historical Museum by Viviane Beller. While the kids colored a coat of arms and tried on different war helmets, the adults learned some very interesting facts about our city’s history. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, several AIA members got together on January 30 for a “Cuisine de l’Amour” cooking class. Everyone had a great time learning about cooking with organic ingredients, and of course eating the delicious dishes they prepared!

We had a lovely event on January 16th. We had 47 guests from AIA who came to see Giselle at the Opera du Rhin in Strasbourg. The ballet was fantastic – everyone seemed to enjoy it a lot! Before the ballet, some members met at the jewelry store, Bijouterie Roger, for a glass of champagne and a private showing.
