Americans in Alsace Board of Directors

Rebecca has served on the AIA board since 2018 and became President in 2020.

Originally from Southern California by way of Northern Nevada, she moved to Alsace in 2018. As President, she has led AIA through Covid, a major governance renewal, including new bylaws adopted in 2026, and, together with the AIA volunteer board, champions programs that help North American newcomers put down roots in the region while keeping some of the beloved traditions from home.

When she's not wrangling paperwork for the association, you'll find her living her quiet village life in a small village north of Strasbourg.

Originally from North Carolina, Claire has called Strasbourg home since 2018. She joined AIA in 2020 and quickly joined the Board to support event planning. She has served as AIA’s Vice President since 2023.

With a background in public health and proposal development, Claire brings experience in project management and strategic planning. She enjoys helping AIA members build a strong sense of community while discovering all that Alsace has to offer.

Outside of AIA, Claire works for a clinical research organization and enjoys spending her free time hiking with her dog, gardening, cooking, and traveling with her French husband. 

Originally from Massachusetts, Nicole has been living in Strasbourg since September 2017 when she came for a 6-month teaching contract. She fell in love with Strasbourg and has officially called Strasbourg home since 2018. Nicole joined AIA after attending the 30-year anniversary event in 2021 and has been a member of the board since 2025.

Nicole lives near the city center with her partner and their two cats.

Nicole spends most of her free time on her bike exploring Alsace, the Black Forest, and France. She is also an avid runner, knitter, and reader.

Serving first as Membership Director, Ann is Treasurer since 2022 keeping AIA on top of its financial obligations, whether to our members or the wider Strasbourg business community whose services we use. Building on her self-employed experience, she leads an informal sub-committee of bookkeepers and auditors, both AIA members and not.

She’s been known to host Happy Hour and to project manage our annual Thanksgiving Lunch. She is active in other Strasbourg associations running an annual St Patrick’s Day event and ran a short story competition for ten years.

In her free time, Ann likes hill-walking, yoga, creative writing or discussing a good book!

Originally from Albany, NY,  Sara studied in Liverpool, England, where she met and married her Alsacien husband in 2011. Since then, they’ve called many places home — from a first stay in Alsace as newlyweds to Chicago, Minneapolis, San Diego, Seattle, and most recently Salem, Massachusetts.

After all that moving around, they decided to put down permanent roots and in 2026 moved to Strasbourg, where they’re excited to make a home and build a life with their three daughters.

Always one to dive in head first, Sara joined the AIA board immediately upon moving to support membership and build community. She can usually be found with a book in hand, trying a new recipe or doing some exploring.

A Cleveland native, Laura met her Alsatian husband while doing her undergrad work in Nutrition and Dietetics at Kent State University. They started their life together in Boston where they lived for 9 years before making the jump to France in 2012.

Laura lives with her three kids just north of Strasbourg in the village where her husband grew up. She is an avid strength trainer and is passionate about gardening and cooking. Her new passion is salsa dancing!
